London fashion week is fast approaching, and soon we’ll be able to glimpse the biggest trends that everyone will be rocking this Autumn/Winter. We can expect luxe tailoring, with classic and clean silhouettes in luxurious jewel tones on contrasting silk and velvet materials, similar to Tom Ford’s latest offerings and at the other end of the spectrum, oversized boxy tailoring. As the line between menswear and womenswear continues to blur there will be a greater shift in appreciation for the androgynous aesthetic. Think strong shoulders, detailed stitching and straighter sleek silhouettes, either softened by delicate minimalistic pieces or emphasized by industrial warcore-style utility belts, embellished with bulky buckles, studs, carabiner hooks and chain detailing, as teased by Alexander McQueen and Comme des Garçons.
Another trend that we can look forward to developing is the Y2K trend. We’ll be seeing lots more exciting uses of colour blocking and bold head to toe monochrome styling, complemented by detailed crystal trimmings and embellishments, as seen in recent Christopher Kane collections. Riding the crystal wave, statement hairclips have become staple accessories that are here to stay, you can expect an offering of fun beaded barrettes and bags from Shrimps. There’ll also be multiple brand revivals. Following Versace’s reinvention of bold and playful prints from their 90’s archives and Dior’s monogram print and saddle bag’s renewed popularity, Fendi have kicked off 2019 with the reintroduction of the iconic baguette. We‘re sure to see even more throwbacks and a continuation of logo mania with brands getting more creative with their applications of iconic logo recreations.
We’ll also see a transition from the casual dad sneaker and can expect a revitalization of more streamlined silhouettes with heavy dystopian future influences complemented by contrasting cleated soles and reflective accents. Off White X Nike have already kicked this off so you’ll definitely be seeing more of it in streetwear.
